Your role and responsibilities

• Lead engineer of power electronics systems and control focusing on medium-voltage converter platforms used as electrical drives and static frequency converters. • Research, development and productization of control, modulation and estimation methods for power conversion systems, among them MP3C. • Lead and participate in R&D projects, generate intellectual property, and support the organization with your systems and control expertise • Collaborate with ABB's global business units, ABB's Corporate Research Centers and universities • Has to understand requirements from multiple application and design a common control solution which would satisfy the performance needs • Has the ability to work with different converter topologies like 3- level VSC converter, 5 level VSC converter, Current source inverter • Responsible for leading the system level verification of the drive and associated electrical drive train component

Qualifications for the role

  • PhD degree in power electronics with strong expertise in converter system aspects and modeling including medium-voltage multilevel converters, electrical machines, drive systems and static frequency converters
  • More than 5 years of proven experience in developing control solutions for a power electronic converter/electrical drive
  • Strong expertise in control theory and applied control methods, particularly modern control formulated in the time domain including model predictive control
  • Keen interest in advanced modulation methods for three-phase systems (pulse width modulation, optimized pulse patterns) and mathematical optimization (nonlinear programming)
  • Ability to program in Simulink and model complex simulations for system level validation
  • Good command of English, German language skills are beneficial but not a necessity
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and analytical skills
  • Highly motivated, creative and self-organizing team player with the ability to lead projects
